Very sad news.
An Irishman has died after being stabbed in Australia. The incident happened in Perth, where the man had been living for the last few years.
According to
RTÉ, he has been named locally as Charles McCarthy, who was from Cork but was living in the area with his two children and his wife.
He was out with friends on Saturday, December 23, when an argument broke out with two others. During the incident, Charles sustained an injury to his head and collapsed.
It's believed that he was stabbed in the head during the altercation. He was brought to a nearby hospital where he later died.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
His local parish in Aghada, Co Cork paid tribute to his yesterday, saying, "So sorry to hear of the passing of Charlie McCarthy of Upper Aghada who lived in Perth with his young family. Let us keep his family in Perth and here at home in Aghada in our prayers."
