It’s Mother’s Day, a day to celebrate motherhood, in general, to champion mums and all the incredible things they can do with their bodies and the unending, selfless love that they give. It’s also a day to celebrate your own mum. But for those who have lost their mums, it’s a day they’ll spend with lumps in their throats, an ache inside, and a longing to connect with the woman who was so influential in their lives.
You are not alone, and JK Rowling took to Twitter this morning to recognise this. As always, she nails it in one perfect sentence and twitter has been hopping all say in respond to her sound words:
Today’s Mother’s Day in the UK. If your mum isn’t here to treat, do something nice for yourself, because she’s part of you. Take a hug, too?

‘Do something nice for yourself’ should be a weekly mantra for all women, we reckon. A little ‘me-time’ and a dose of self-compassion goes a long way.
