“Way more people than anybody realises go through this.”
John Legend has spoken about the impact of losing his son Jack, after his wife Chrissy Teigen, experienced a stillbirth in 2020.
During a recent appearance on Desert Island Discs, the singer said that while his heartbreak gets easier over time, he will never forget it.
He also spoke about why he felt it was important to share the news with the family’s fans.
He said: “It was difficult and I was hesitant to share it. But I think Chrissy was really right in encouraging us to share it because I think it really was powerful for a lot of people and way more people than anybody realises go through this.”
He went on to say that many families who experience pregnancy and infant loss feel like they are alone, but that many of them reached out to the couple after they shared their news.

John said: “They told us they felt alone a lot of times and us sharing our experience helped people feel less alone and feel like there were other people going through it and that there was a community of people going through it.”
He later said that Chrissy’s choice to share what they went through was a “really powerful, wise decision”.
John’s comments emerge a week after Chrissy announced that she is pregnant.
The model shared last week that joy has filled her heart and her home after she learned that she was expecting another baby.
In an Instagram post, she wrote: “1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way.
“Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still.
“I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful.”
