Justin Chambers on what’s next for him after leaving Grey’s Anatomy

Justin Chambers has revealed what's next for him after leaving Grey's Anatomy. 

The 49-year-old - who has played Dr. Alex Karev since the start of the series - announced he was leaving the long-running medical drama last week. And speaking to Page Six after his departure, Chambers said he was looking forward to "life, family, love, friendship." He said that he was "very excited" for the next chapter in his life, but that it was very emotional to be leaving Grey's.  "Anywhere that you spend 15 years, it's a big chunk of your life... Grey's has been very supportive of me. I'm very grateful, and it's been a great ride," he said. Chambers also addressed what he's looking at doing next after is departure from Grey's Anatomy.  "I'm open [to film roles], but I'm just taking it one day at a time," he continued. "I'm producing documentaries, that's what I'm interested in right now." In a statement last week, Chambers revealed that he had left the show - with multiple reports saying that his episode has finally aired. “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he said. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.” Karev was last seen in Grey's 350th episode, which aired on November 14. In the following episode, it was mentioned that he had gone home to take care of his sick mother. The character was introduced in the Grey's series premiere as a surgical intern at Seattle Grace. He eventually became a resident, and later a paediatric surgical fellow.
