"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. "The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge."It is believed Kate and William kept the name under wraps until they were able to inform Queen Elizabeth of their choice in person. The couple, together with their newborn and Prince George, who turns two in July, have decamped to Anmer Hall, their country mansion on the Sandringham Estate, where the monarch and Prince Phillip were due to see their youngest grandchild today.
Charlotte and Alice were the bookies' favourites, with Olivia making a late appearance after the princess was born on Saturday morning.
While the world was asked to wait a few days before the princess' name was announced, at least the delay wasn't as long as it was when Prince William was born; Princess Diana and Prince Charles waited a week before announcing William's name.
