Kate and Wills ‘have chosen name’ for their princess

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to release the name of their new baby daughter today, but not until the Queen is informed first.

Kate and Wills are due to take the newborn princess, who arrived on Saturday morning, to Sandringham, where she will have her first audience with her great-granny, 89 and Prince Phillip, 93.

Although there is no official protocol that demands the Queen be personally informed of the child’s name, it is thought that the decision to keep the name a secret for a little longer was made by Prince William, who is very close to his grandmother.

Punters have placed almost €1m on guessing the name, with Charlotte, Alice, Elizabeth and Victoria the clear favourites and Olivia moving up a notch since the birth. Many hope the name Diana could feature too, in a tribute to William’s late mother.

As family, including Carole and Michael and Pippa Middleton and Prince Charles and Camilla arrived at the couple’s Kensington Palace apartment yesterday, a royal source said the princess is ‘settling in nicely’.

After two days in London, Kate and William will move their new arrival and 21-month-old Prince George to their Anmer Hall residence on the Royal Family’s Sandringham estate today.
