Kathryn Thomas has opened up about her latest project
Broadcaster Kathryn Thomas has opened up about her decision to take on a brand new radio show.
The mum-of-two has been praised for discussing the difficulties of taking on a new role when you have a young family.
As many parents know all too well, we can sacrifice so much in our careers in exchange for family time.
Finding the right balance between motherhood and your career can feel impossible at the best of times, but it’s important to remember you’re not alone in your struggles.
Kathryn Thomas admitted she was hesitant to give up so much time with her family for her new Q102 radio show.
She told Life magazine:
“As women, or as mums, there’s a time in life when we tend to retreat back or say no to opportunities where we should say yes.
“I think we don’t hear a lot about that. I think we hear about the importance of saying no and putting up boundaries and protecting ourselves against burnout, but we can get into the habit of saying no too much, and not taking opportunities.”
She continued, “When this opportunity came up, it took me a long time to get my head around it.
“The biggest thing for me was like “we live in Dublin 8 and I walk the girls to school every day and that seven o’clock to quarter past nine-time is magic,” the mum added.
The mum-of-two said she is looking at things with rose-tinted glasses and said parenting can be chaotic too.
However, she does miss those mornings spent with her two daughters.
Kathryn praised her husband Padraig for adapting to their new routine but confirmed they will likely get a morning minder at some point.
