Katie Taylor outclassed her opponent Karina Kopinska in her professional boxing debut yesterday at the Wembley Arena in London.
The five-time world and 2012 Olympic champion won the fight with a third-round stoppage of Kopinska. Katie’s next fight is scheduled for the 10th of December and hopes are high that the Irish champion could challenge for a world title at the end of next year.
The 30-year-old Bray native told BBC Sport:
“That would be the dream, boxing for a world title in Dublin, or anywhere in Ireland. I don’t want to get too carried away, it was only my first fight as a pro, but I plan to do big things in this sport. I hope to be multiple-weight world champion.”
Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn said:
“There was huge pressure on her, not just to get the win but to put in a performance. It couldn’t have gone any better. She needed a good start to get hold of the non-believers. Forget about whether it is men’s or women’s boxing, she can fight and entertain.”
Katie is making plans for a proper Irish Christmas, recently tweeting that she deserves tickets to the Late Late Toy Show after host Ryan Tubridy slipped up and accidentally called her ‘Katie Hopkins’.
I think I deserve a couple of tickets to the toy show after that slip up!! @RTELateLateShow #YouKnowYouWantTo ? https://t.co/CDgYKDtDtW

Tubs responded to say that he only loves, admires and adores one Katie – the Irish one!
