Manhunt underway following attack on teenage girl in Kilkenny

The 17-year-old girl has been treated for shock.

Gardaí in Kilkenny are continuing their search after a man attacked a teenage girl.

The 17-year-old was out exercising on Monday, January 31st. Shortly after midday, a man, who was unknown to her, assaulted the young girl and then fled the scene.

The attack took place at Ballyspellan, near Johnstown yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí are continuing their investigation this morning.

They have described the suspect as a white male, in his 40s. He also has an Irish accent.

Gardaí issued a statement: “The male is best described, at this time, as a white male in his 40s with an Irish accent.

“Gardaí continue to carry out enquiries and recover CCTV from the area,” they added.

The 17-year-old girl was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny. She was treated for shock and a physical injury. However, it is not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí are urging witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation.

They’re particularly interested in talking to anyone who was traveling on the R369 between Johnstown and The Gallops in Ballyspellan between 11 am and 12.15 pm on Monday.

They’re also urging anyone with video footage to come forward.
