Kourtney Kardashian speaks about the ultrasound that saved her baby

Kourtney Kardashian, 44, has bravely opened up about the ‘terrifying’ experience of having emergency foetal surgery last month that saved her unborn baby’s life. The reality star is expecting her fourth child and first with husband Travis Barker, 47. Last month, the Blink-182 drummer cancelled gigs across the UK and Ireland to rush back to the US so that he could be by Kourtney’s side during the medical emergency. Speaking to Vogue, the eldest Kardashian sister says the surgery completely shifted her perspective on pregnancy. “That experience opened my eyes to a whole new world of pregnancy that I didn’t know about in the past. It was terrifying. After, I learned that insurance typically only covers two ultrasounds when you’re pregnant, I had no idea. [caption id="attachment_435039" align="aligncenter" width="641"] Kourtney Kardashian Credit: Getty[/caption] “I’ve always been lucky enough to do more than what insurance covers, and it’s one of those ultrasounds that saved my baby’s life.” Kourtney has been undergoing in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) in the hopes of conceiving their baby, but decided to halt the process before she and Barker’s Portofino wedding in May 2022. She added that this was something she ‘felt really pressured and pushed into doing’. “It went against my intuition, and I didn’t feel fully prepared for the mental or physical toll it takes,” the media personality confessed. Her current pregnancy was one that happened ‘naturally’ the soon-to-be-mum-of-four admitted. “It was an indescribable feeling. Shock, then super-happy, fear sets in, worry, but I remembered then to have gratitude.” Viewers of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians reality series will have followed Kourtney’s journey of her first three pregnancies with Mason (13), Penelope (11), and Reign (8), whom she shares with her ex, Scott Disick, all of which were complication-free and happened without any birth plan in place. Speaking on when her waters broke with her eldest son in 2009, she said: “I was so chill when my water broke with Mason, I shaved my legs and put on make-up. This time, I still don’t have a birth plan except for talking to the baby all the time and telling him ‘everything is going to be amazing.'” Last month, following her foetal surgery, Kourtney thanked the doctors for saving her baby’s life and touched on the fact that her previous pregnancies has been ‘easy’ which added to the fear. “I will be forever grateful to my incredible doctors for saving our baby’s life. I am eternally grateful to my husband who rushed to my side from tour to be with me in the hospital and take care of me afterwards, my rock. And to my mom, thank you for holding my hand through this. I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been through a similar situation can begin to understand that feeling of fear. I have a whole new understanding and respect for the mamas who have had to fight for their babies while pregnant. “Praise be to God. Walking out of the hospital with my baby boy in my tummy and safe was the truest blessing,” she wrote.
