Kym Marsh dedicates her Soap Award to stillborn son, Archie

Kym Marsh delivered an incredibly emotional speech at the British Soap Awards last night.

The acctress took to the stage to accept her award for Best Female Dramatic Performance and dedicated the win to her son, Archie. The 40-year-old actress lost Archie back in 2009, after she went into labour at just five months pregnant. This last year, Kym was rightly praised after she had to relive the trauma all over again as her character in Coronation Street, Michelle, lost a child in a similar way.

“I’ve been in Coronation Street 11 years this year and this has been my biggest and best year yet and that’s down to the fact I’ve been given some tremendous storylines,” she said in her speech last night. “And some quite difficult storylines – Michelle and Steve’s baby loss storyline was perhaps the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do in my career. "And for Simon also, I think I can speak for you on that.”

The actress went on to say that she and Simon Gregson struggled with the difficult storyline, but felt it was necessary to tell such an important story.

“It took us back to places we didn’t want to go to again, but we wanted to do it. We wanted to tell the story because it is such an important story to tell. “There are so many people going through that right now – as we’re sitting here enjoying ourselves, someone is losing their baby. I’vegone through that myself as I’m sure most of you know, so has Simon.” “This award I would like to dedicate to my son Archie and all those rainbow babies.”

The emotional speech came after months of praise for the actress’s bravery in dealing with such a personal issue.
