‘Think-in’ talks will go ahead today.

The Labour Party’s Alan Kelly has announced plans for the HPV vaccine to be given to boys.

While speaking to Newstalk, Mr Kelly said that he has been working with the Health Minister, Simon Harris, on a plan that will see a motion being called for the adjustment in the near future.

This comes after the Minister of State for Disabilities, Finian McGrath, made controversial comments on the vaccine earlier this month.

It has been reported that in the years 2014 – 2015 there was a 87 percent uptake in the jab, however, immunisation levels have now fallen below 50 percent, reports thejournal.ie.

Simon Harris believes that this has been subject to misinformation circulating in the media about the vaccine.

While boys are thought to be immune to the virus, it is believed that it will protect them from contracting HPV-associated cancers.

The vaccine was originally supposed to be carried out to boys but due to a slow-down in rates it had to be held back.
