Police officers from Operation Grange, the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, are reportedly assessing new information in relation to Sir Clement Freud to see if it is relevant to their inquiries.

On Tuesday, the former broadcaster and politician was accused of sexually abusing a number of young girls between the late 1940s and 1970s. One of his victims contacted ITV’s Exposure documentary team.

According to The Telegraph, detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine have been alerted to the fact that Freud, who died in 2009, had a villa in Praia da Luz in Portugal.

He is also said to have befriended the McCanns following the disappearance of their daughter in 2007, when she was 3 years old. The couple are apparently “horrified” by the revelation.

The Telegraph reports that Freud’s family said that he was not in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance.
