Mare of Easttown season 2

Say it isn’t so.

If you watched – and loved – Mare of Easttown as much as we did, you are no doubt keeping your fingers crossed praying for a second season.

The show, starring Kate Winslet as Pennsylvanian police detective Mare Sheehan, who was investigating the murder of a local teen, was a huge hit for HBO and Sky, and so although the drama was only ever written as a one-season show, it is no wonder that the cast and crew are being bombarded with questions about a possible second series.

Recently, the creator of the small town US drama, Brad Ingelsby, spoke to TVLine about the show – and what is standing in the way of another instalment hitting our screens.

If we can crack a story that is as great [as Season 1] and that would do justice to the characters and carry on the story in a way that was organic and yet surprising, I would love to do it,” Ingelsby explains.

He added: ‘I just don’t know what the story is. That’s the issue right now.’

Head of HBO, Casey Bloys, recently also confirmed to Variety that it is not known yet whether or not a second series will ever happen.

“If Brad felt like he had a story to tell that felt like it would be at the same level, I think everybody would be open to it,’ Bloys said.

“Right now, he doesn’t have that story. Who knows? We’ll have to wait to see if they come up with something they’re dying to tell,’ he added, ‘usually we take the lead from our creators.”

Winslet, how has the starring role in the show, has already spoken about how much she’d love to play the character of Mare again.

“I miss her. I really do. It’s the strangest thing, I feel like I’m in mourning,” the 46-year-old told TVLine.

“It was an absolutely wonderful role… There’s something very addictive about Mare, because she’s so outrageous and lovable and brilliant and real, you know? I loved playing her.”

However, Angourie Rice, who plays Mare’s daughter Siobhan, recently told Elle that while she initially was keen to film a second instalment, she has since had some second thought on whether or not there really is another story to tell.

‘My immediate response is, “Yeah!” But then, the more I think about it, the more I think, actually, I’m so happy to leave those characters where they are. The more I think about it, the more I’m like, “No, no, no.” I kind of love the power that this standalone story has.”

What do YOU think, guys? Would you love another series of Mare of Easttown?
