Mary Lou McDonald has spoken out about the heartbreaking passing of Harvey Sherratt.
Harvey Sherratt sadly died in July, but his cause of death is not yet known.
The Sinn Féin leader called on Simon Harris to meet with Harvey's parents, Gillian Sherratt and Stephen Morrison.
Before he passed away, Harvey's parents had tirelessly campaigned for their son to be treated for scoliosis.
Harvey was removed from Children’s Health Ireland’s (CHI’s) urgent scoliosis surgery waiting list without his family being informed.
The young boy later got his surgery at the end of 2024, but was on the waiting list for three years with spina bifida and life-threatening scoliosis.
Mary Lou McDonald said Simon Harris should meet with Harvey's parents and apologise for the State's failure.
"The state has completely failed this bravest, strongest, and most courageous boy and his family, first by the intolerable delays in his treatment, and then by your failure to follow through on a commitment made directly to me, and by extension, to them
“You assured me that you would meet with Harvey’s parents, Gillian and Stephen, to discuss their son’s urgent medical situation. Regrettably, and without explanation, that meeting never took place.
“This young child moved the hearts of the nation when a video of him struggling to breathe was widely shared.
“His parents fought tirelessly to have him returned to the active waiting list after he was inexplicably and without notification removed from it.”
McDonald believes Harris should meet with Harvey's parents.
His parents have both called on Harris to resign.
Harris has spoken out about Harvey's case and said he contacted both the Department of Health and CHI after it was brought to his attention.
According to The Irish Examiner, Harris said he also sought clinical consultations and that the appropriate was given to Harvey.
