Rest In Peace, Matthew Healy

The funeral details for six-year-old Matthew Healy have been announced following his tragic passing.

The death notice says he will be ‘sadly missed by his heartbroken dad James, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family, neighbours and friends.’

Matthew will repose at his home in Cork this evening (February 13th) from 5 pm until 8 pm.

The requiem mass will take place tomorrow in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Watergrasshill at 12 pm and will be followed by a private service in The Island Crematorium at Ringaskiddy.

“Fly with the angels”, the death notice adds.

The young boy was discovered unresponsive in a car near Rathmoylan Cover outside Dunmore East shortly after midnight on Friday, February 9th.

Matthew received treatment at the scene from emergency service personnel and was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of the morning.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested on Friday morning close to the scene, around 15km from Waterford city, with Gardaí hoping to interview her in connection with his death.

The Independent reports that Gardaí are still awaiting medical clearance to question the woman, stating that Matthew’s death is being treated as suspicious and he is believed to have died in an asphyxia-related incident.

In a statement released to the Irish Examiner on behalf of Matthew’s father, James Healy, he said he was deeply grateful for the prayer vigils that took place in memory of his son over the weekend.

Mr Healy has appealed for privacy during this difficult time.

“Matthew’s father, James Healy, expresses his deep gratitude for the several vigils that were held for his son Matthew throughout Waterford,” the statement said.

“He would ask at this sad time for privacy,” the statement concluded.
