Mum and children killed in Mayo accident have been named

They tragically passed away following a road accident in Mayo

The victims of a Mayo road accident have been named.

A mother and her two children sadly passed away following the accident in Castlegar near Claremorris in Co. Mayo.

The victims have been named as 47-year-old Una Bowden. Her daughters, Ciara (14) and Saoirse (9) were also killed in the tragic accident.

The accident occurred on the N17 at Castlegar near Claremorris in Co. Mayo on March 26th.

Post-mortems were conducted at Mayo University Hospital but the results will not be released for operational reasons.

A Garda investigation is taking place following the harrowing accident.

Gardaí issued a statement following the incident:

“Gardaí continue to investigate the fatal road traffic collision on the N17 in Castlegar, Co. Mayo, which resulted in the deaths of Una Bowden (47), Ciara Bowden (14) and Saoirse Bowden (9) yesterday, Tuesday 26th March 2024.

“Post mortems of the deceased took place this morning at Mayo University Hospital.  The results of these post-mortems will not be released for operational reasons.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward following the harrowing incident.

Gardaí are also asking the public not to circulate images of the crash scene that are currently in circulation.

“Out of respect for the family, we are requesting these images are not shared,” they asked.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
