Meghan Markle has explained why she never changed her name
Meghan Markle has opened up about why she continues using her royal name despite stepping down as a senior working member of the royal family in 2020.
Markle and Prince Harry caused extreme controversy when they stepped away from their royal duties in 2020.
They have been working on their own projects since stepping away from the royal family and relocating to California.
Meghan’s latest project is a lifestyle Netflix series called With Love, Meghan.
The show landed on Netflix this week and sees the former actress share her top hosting tips and give us a glimpse at her new life in California.
The mum-of-two and Prince Harry are notoriously private, but Meghan has opened up in her new Netflix series.
In one episode, Meghan is talking to writer and actress Mindy Kaling.
Meghan jokingly claps back at Mindy Kaling when she keeps referring to her as ‘Meghan Markle.’
She says to her friend: “It’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.”
Meghan explained that she wants to share the same surname as her children, Archie and Lilibet.
“You have kids, and you go, “No, I should share my name with my children.
“I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much. This is our family name, our little family name.”
Meghan stressed that she may have stepped down as a senior royal, but said the name will always mean a lot to her.
She told People: “As the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’
She continued: “I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.”
