Meghan Markle’s half-sister is trying to sue her for defamation.
Meghan Markle has shut down claims she lied during her famous interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The mum-of-two and her husband Prince Harry sat down with the legendary broadcaster last year to open up about their decision to step down as senior working royals.
During the interview, Meghan claimed she grew up as an only child. However, after the interview, her half-siblings accused her of lying.
Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Markle is now suing the former actress for defamation.
She claims comments Meghan made about her childhood caused her emotional and mental distress.
Samantha claims that Meghan’s ‘rags-to-riches’ story is fake.
She also accused Meghan of plotting a “premeditated campaign to destroy” both her and their father Thomas’s reputation.
According to court records shared by The Mirror, Meghan’s lawyers have stressed that she did not lie.
“Plaintiff [Samantha] first asserts that she can disprove that Meghan “grew up as an only child”. But this perception is entirely unfalsifiable. It is hard to imagine a more personal and subjective feeling than how one views their own childhood.”
“Moreover, Plaintiff’s opposition completely ignores the context of the statement where Ms. Winfrey asked Meghan about her relationship with Plaintiff.”
“Meghan’s response was obviously not meant to be a statement of fact that she had no genetic siblings or half-siblings.”
“Rather it was a textbook example of a subjective statement about how a person feels about her childhood.”
