Is your man’s lifestyle destroying his sperm?

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Women have long been warned to clean up their lifestyle if they’re trying to get pregnant, but one in three men are unaware that drinking, ageing, obesity and STDs can adversely affect their sperm.

According to a new poll of 2,000 men, almost half of respondents didn’t know that excess alcohol consumption could harm their fertility.

Fifty-five per cent didn’t realise that a sexually transmitted infection could hamper their ability to procreate, while 49 per cent of men didn’t know that their sperm cells are more susceptible to genetic faults as they grow older.

According to the poll, conducted by Nuffield Health and Infertility Network UK, almost one third of men revealed they had suffered fertility issues. 60 per cent admitted their fertility issues had harmed their relationship while 40 per cent said it had an adverse affect on their mental health.
