You truly do love to see it.

Met Éireann has forecast rain that is both “heavy” and “wintery” tonight as temperatures are expected to drop as low as 0 degrees in some parts of the country.

There will be scattered showers travelling across the country today, but for the most part the day will be dry and cloudy with highs of between 7 and 9 degrees.

That is, until, later on tonight when conditions are expected to change as outbreaks of rain across southern counties become widespread, affecting most of the country.

Wintery rain is entirely possible as heavy showers and the odd bit of thunder dominate the night. There is also a possibility of strong winds before Thursday morning arrives.

Bouts of cold frost are expected to develop as temperatures settle between 4 and 0 degrees, leading into heavy and thundery rain in the east of the country that will eventually dissipate as the morning wears on.

Mist and fog will take up most of tomorrow morning, with the majority clearing to bring about a calm day.

The rest of the week is looking fairly unsettled with showers expected on and off leading into the weekend.

It’s set to be dark, wet, and windy, lads – can’t wait.
