A new weather warning has been issued for 18 counties – and it sounds pretty grim.

The yellow rainfall warning was issued for Munster and Leinster, and will come into effect at 3pm on Tuesday.

It will remain in place until 6am on Wednesday morning, with the southern and eastern countries forecast to be affected the most.

The Met Éireann forecaster said:

“A spell of heavy rain will move up from the south Tuesday afternoon, giving 25 to 35 mm of rain. The larger totals are likely to be over southern and eastern counties.”

As for the rest of the forecast fo the day, Met Éireann have said the temperatures will reach highs of 8C to 11C during the day, before dropping as low as 2C in some parts of the country tonight.

The rain will spread northwards to most areas tonight, with it being heaviest in southern and eastern coastal counties – which may lead to spot flooding.
