Winter is coming, etc.

It's officially December lads, and you know what that means - intense cold weather and maybe even snow, apparently. It's been a hot minute since Ireland was hit with a significant amount of the white stuff, but if Met Éireann's latest forecast is anything to go by, it looks like we could even be in the market for something close to a white Christmas. Met Éireann today issued a 55-hour weather advisory update urging the country to be aware of severe frosts and icy stretches. "Much colder for the rest of the week, with sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches," they said. "Some wintry showers too." This advisory is valid from 4pm on Wednesday, December 2 until midnight on Friday, December 4.

This comes after The Mirror reported that Ireland could be seeing snow as early as this week.

"It's too early to say what the precipitation type will be, it could be sleet, it could be snow on higher ground, we will need to see closer to the time," said forecaster Paul Downes. "It's definitely going to be a drastic change from Wednesday to Thursday as temperatures fall on Thursday afternoon we're expecting a hard frost on Thursday night, particularly in the eastern half of the country." Today, however, the weather isn't looking all that bad as most areas are staying fully dry, apart from patchy drizzle. "Overall cloudy with some mist and fog locally, though a few bright or sunny spells will develop too," reads the forecast. "Highest temperatures will range a seasonal 8 to 11 degrees Celsius, in just light westerly breezes."
