Met Éireann have issued a snow/ice warning for Donegal .
The status yellow warning comes into effect at 3pm on Wednesday and will end at8am on Thursday.
Met Éireann have said that showers will turn increasingly wintry during Wednesday with a mix of hail, sleet and snow, leading to icy conditions on untreated surfaces. Some localised accumulations will occur.
Looking at the forecast for the rest of the country, today will be a blustery and showery day, with some sunshine but also widespread showers merging to give longer spells of rain during the afternoon.
The showers, some heavy with hail and a risk of thunder, will turn increasingly wintry with snow on high ground by evening – particularly in west Ulster.
Tonight will be very cold and windy, with scattered showers moving eastwards across the country. Many of these showers will be wintry, bringing a mix of sleet, hail and snow. Fresh to strong southwesterly winds overnight, with gales along some west and northwest coasts.
Thursday will be a cold and windy day with sunny spells and scattered showers merging into longer spells of rain at times. Some wintry falls will be possible too, mainly of sleet, and there will be a risk of hail and thunder.
It will be dry in most places on Friday morning, with some sunny intervals. Rain will move into the southwest on Friday morning though and will spread northeast throughout the day, with some heavy falls possible in southern areas.
