Michaela was murdered in 2011.

Police investigating the murder of Michaela McAreavey have arrested a former security guard.

Detectives are questioning Dassen Narayen, who used to work at the hotel where Michaela was killed.

His lawyer confirmed to PA that he was detained on Tuesday, March 29th.

It is believed he was questioned about thefts that occurred at the Legends Hotel at the time of the teacher’s death.

Mr. Narayen was originally charged with conspiracy to murder in 2011, but this was later reduced to a larceny charge.

This was then struck out in 2013.

The former security guard has denied any wrongdoings.

His lawyer stated, “He’s denied this from day one and it’s the same situation today.”

On January 10th, 2011, Michaela was found dead by her husband. The newlyweds were on their honeymoon in Mauritius.

Michaela went up to their room at the Legends Hotel just before 3 pm. It is believed she was wrestled to the ground when she entered their room.

The teacher was then strangled and put into the bath.

Her husband John found her body shortly after.

Michaela was only 27-years-old at the time of her death.

Two hotel workers were accused of her murder.

However, they were tried and declared not guilty by the Supreme Court of Mauritius.

They were both acquitted on July 12th, 2012.

Nobody has been found guilty of Michaela’s murder.

Last summer, the Mauritian government “ostensibly agreed” to have another look at the investigation into Michaela’s murder.

She was the daughter of Gaelic football legend Mickey Harte.
