Mother arrested after newborn baby is buried alive

Police in California have arrested the mother of a baby who was buried alive last month.  Just 36 hours old, the infant was found near a riverbed near a bike path in Compton by two sisters who heard a muffled cry and raised the alarm. The child, who was wrapped in a hospital blanket, was buried in a crevice and covered with dirt and asphalt. Sheriff's deputy Adam Collette, who attended the scene, told the LA Times: "The cry that I heard, as a father, was more of a cry for help, I'm hungry, but not like I'm injured and hurt,”

"I know what I was hearing, but I didn't believe it.”

Doctors have confirmed the child is in good health and doing well. It is hoped that she will be placed for adoption soon. According to the local media, the mother's identity and further details of the baby's condition will be released at a press conference later today.
