As a mother, you know that it’s not possible to watch your child 24 hours a day and occasionally they will do something that they’ve been told not to do.
For many, this will be a minor thing but for Laura Deena Halls, her son’s actions almost cost him his life.
She described on Facebook how her eight-year-old son Keane did the “daft thing” of trying to separate two LEGO pieces with his teeth.
One of the pieces went down his throat leaving him unable to breathe.
He was rushed to hospital and it was discovered that the piece had travelled down his windpipe and was lodged in the tube of his right lung. He was taken into surgery immediately.
Laura explained in a post on Facebook: “To say it shook us all up is an understatement! Docs said as it were in the lung air could get in ‘by that tiny life saving hole’ but struggled to get out [sic].”
Who knew the tiniest piece of lego could do so much damage yet for the fact that there was a tiny hole in the piece made…

She added: “I dont blame lego. I do think though that all lego pieces should have a little hole for that and the fast actions of the staff here in hospital saved my boys life yesterday.
“We went to hell and back yesterday, we thought at 8 and a half we’d drummed into him no lego in his mouth but that one split decision could’ve had tragic consequences, please parents and carers re-itterate to your littlies the dangers of lego or in fact any small toy in their mouths, please.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to go through this [sic].”
