Mother of two dies following alleged assault in Ennis, Co. Clare

A mother of two has died following an alleged assault in Ennis, Co. Clare.

Sharon Bennett, aged 29, was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend, Patrick Ballard, aged 34,
in Ennis’s market area on Thursday, January 28.

Bennett was admitted to University Hospital Limerick with a serious head injury. She passed away this morning.

Clare Mayor Cllr Mary Howard said: “It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear that two children will be left without their mother.

“My thoughts and prayers are with her family and her friends who are absolutely heartbroken at this time and I say that on behalf of the people of Clare.”

Ballard was charged with assault causing harm and is currently in custody at Limerick prison. He will appear in court in Ennis via video link in March.
