A mother in the UK took on extreme measures to try and combat the issue of speeding drivers in her area.
Instead of appealing to the better nature of her fellow neighbours, and visiting drivers, one mother, in Berkshire in the UK, decided to scare them into slowing down. She installed a homemade speed camera, using wood, cardboard and the lid of a deodorant spray.
From afar, and to passing traffic, it looked pretty realistic, resulting in cars slowing down as they went by. It was only on closer inspection that people found out it was a hoax.
The mother has yet to come forward and locals have decided to keep the prop camera in place to encourage safer driving.
A local shopkeeper Ray Plowman told
The Sun:
"I've no idea who put it there, but if it slows traffic down and enables people to cross the road safely, then that's got to be a good thing."
A local councilor admitted that there was a speeding issue on the roads in the area and confirmed that they are not entitled to remove the fake camera as it is on private land. There is somewhat of a 'grey area' when it comes to the legality of the prop.
For now, it will remain.
