Mum calls child minder selfish for wanting to be paid the minimum wage

Melissa Carton

That poor childminder.

A mum recently took to the internet to vent her frustration about her childminder who she insists left her high and dry after she took a better paying job.

The mum went on to say that the childminder was a friend and she was upset that she would leave her stuck for childcare, but of course there are two sides to every story.

This story is no different and the whole ordeal comes full circle once you hear the childminder’s take on it.

The mum shared a post to Facebook say that she was livid that the child minder she had for over seven months had left to take a job at Walmart.

She went on to say that the minder used to work for her from 9am to 5pm for one hundred dollars a week.

Now I’m no math whizz but even I know that this child minder is easily making way less than minimum wage working those hours for that amount of money.

The mum ended the post saying ‘good luck working longer hours for less pay’ to which many people, including the childminder in question, quickly corrected her on.

When told that the minimum wage is generally over seven dollars an hour (compared to the approximately two dollars an hour she was paying her child minder) the minder would definitely be making more money working at Walmart.

The angry mum stood her ground and said that her ex child minder would lose most of this due to taxes.

Yeah, that’s not how taxes work, a fact she was soon told by the ex child minder (and now ex friend) herself.

“I will make way more money working less hours at Walmart without your whiny kids that scream half the day. Plus the job has benefits. Taxes won’t drive my earnings down to 2.50 an hour. I tried to work for you for as long as I could.

You’re using me for cheap labour because I am (was) your friend. You are rude and entitled.”

I’m completely with the child minder on this one and I think the mum is going to have a hard time finding anyone else willing to work those hours for so little pay.
