A mother has been charged with child neglect after letting her children’s teeth “rot away.”
Angelica Crites was taken into custody after police discovered that her kids’ teeth were black and grey. They family had also been living in a home that had an “overwhelming odour” of animal excrement and ammonia.
Seacoast Online reports that the Florida mum’s actions were discovered when one of her children phoned the police after they couldn’t wake her up.
It took authorities several minutes to wake the 23-year-old after prising the lock off the front door.
Once inside the home, police discovered dirty dishes in the sink, cobwebs, and an “overwhelming odour of ammonia and faeces” from pet excrement that had been smeared around the house.
Several cats and one dog were also living in the dwelling.
Authorities told Crites that her children could not live in the home anymore. They then charged her with child neglect.
The mother is currently being held at Okaloosa County Jail.
