Mum warns against viral car seat 'hack' that could seriously injure your child

A brilliant idea.

As parents, one of our worst fears is our child being involved in a car accident.

To parents of a child with a disability or additional needs, it’s even more of a worry particularly if the adults involved are knocked unconscious.

Should the worst happen, we want to be prepared which is why this mum’s invention might just be one of the best ideas to date.

Mother-of-five Natalie Bell created these special seat belt covers after she was inspired by her daughter who requires the use of a cochlear implant.

After creating a seat belt cover for her daughter, Bell went on to make covers for a wide range of additional needs including impaired vision, autism, walking impairments and diabetes.

Recently, I wrote an article about how emergency services are asking for parents to write vital details on the back of their child’s car seat. These details should include the child’s name, age, blood type and known illnesses or allergies.

The reason behind this precautionary measure is to ensure a child is given correct care should the adults in the vehicle become unconscious and unable to provide the correct information.

Natalie’s seat belt covers are another step in providing emergency services with the right information as well as giving extra safety to our children.

It can be difficult for young children in general to communicate to emergency service workers either because they are too young or too frightened.

For children with sight or hearing impairments or neurological conditions, this can be even more difficult especially in a stressful situation like a car accident.

Ms Bell’s ‘Bellt Alert Covers’ are available to order from her website Personalised by Nat and cost €10 (not including shipping costs).
