Mum furious after she finds shops stocking Christmas supplies in August

But not everybody agreed that it was too early

Keeley Ryan

There’s over four months to go.

One mum went on a furious rant at shops after spotting Christmas supplies on the shelves…in August.

A Mumsnet user, who goes by ‘00100001’, shared the snaps on the forum in protest against retailers selling festive decor with four months to go until the big day.

She asked the other forum users if she was being “unreasonable” for thinking it was too early for the holiday season to kick off.

Her initial post read:

“It’s the middle of August. AUGUST!

“Oxford Street has its displays up. Tesco is selling Christmas bloody chocolates. Charity shops have Christmas cards for sale.

“IT’S A WHOLE THIRD OF A YEAR UNTIL CHRISTMAS angryangryangry.”

Some of her fellow Mumsnet users agreed that it was way too early for the holiday countdown to begin

But others disagreed – saying they couldn’t wait for Christmas, and had already begun their present shopping.

One Christmas fan said:

“I love Christmas and, no, it’s never too early.

“The official countdown starts for me on 1st September. As you said, only a third of the year to go “

Another person, who says she has around half her gifts bought, added:

“It’s never too early for Christmas!

“I’m always on the lookout for gift ideas.

“When I see something, especially if it’s a good price, I buy.

“In fact, only this weekend I was looking at everything I’ve bought for this year and thinking about getting it wrapped over the next week or so. “

Meanwhile, another Christmas fan said:

“I have genuinely just turned to my mum and said ‘I’m getting excited about Christmas already’ … then I saw this thread.

“I’m pregnant. Can I blame hormones??”

And some were dead set against the idea of the Christmas decorations already being on sale.

One mum said:

“I like Xmas just as much as the next person but it’s way too early! I swear it gets earlier every bloody year!

“I want to enjoy September (start of New school year, stationary, meeting my new classes), Halloween, bonfire and mine and DS birthdays in Nov before I think about Christmas.”

Another person admitted decorations already being on sale took the “shine” off the holiday season.

She added:

“I adore Christmas but this just takes the shine off it all.

“It should all just start late November and then you can actually enjoy the build up without feeling like it’s been Christmas for about 4 months.”

Meanwhile, another said:

“I love Christmas and have already done half my present shopping (to spread the cost!!), but I agree that August is too early for shops to get Christmassy.

“I think they should wait till November.

“People who want to, can still get prepared now but without it being in everyone’s faces too early!”
