A mum-of-two has sadly died in a drowning accident in Greystones.

The local school teacher, aged in her 50s, was swimming with friends when she got into difficulty.

She has been named locally as Lynne Freeman.

It is believed they were swimming on North Beach in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.

The group entered the water at around 12.30 pm on Saturday, April 23rd.

The three friends decided to go for an afternoon swim, but the water conditions were not calm.

The three women, all aged in their 50s, were assisted by Greystones Sailing Club.

The club helped remove the three women from the water after hearing reports of them struggling.

Emergency services then arrived at the scene, but it was too late to save the teacher.

Sadly, Lynne Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

One woman was treated at the scene, but the other was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

She was later discharged from hospital.

The local community is said to be shocked by the tragic loss.

The teacher, who is originally from the UK, was beloved by her co-workers and students.

She was also a passionate swimmer and mum-of-two.

We’re keeping Lynne’s family and loved ones in our thoughts during this harrowing time.
