“It makes me think I’m not failing at life.”
Erin McGregor has praised women who openly share that they are struggling with motherhood.
Erin, a mum of two, revealed that she takes comfort in what she called “mummy honesty”.
“I love when I hear a cry from another woman – the cry that says ‘kids are amazing, but they are damn hard work’,” she said on RTÉ One show Cutting Edge.
“It makes me think I’m not failing at life.
“I just feel in today’s society we’re nearly afraid to say we’re not coping as a mother.”
Erin, sister of MMA fighter Conor McGregor, added that she found it hard to balance work with being a mum.
She had in the past felt guilty both for staying at home with her children, 18-year-old Taylor and two-year-old Harry, and for working.
“For me, being at home with my son for 17 months, I would look at social media or the media and I would think women who are out working, they have their sh* together, and I’m failing.
“I became a mother for the first time when I was 19. I went back to work when Taylor was three months old and I felt guilty for that.
“This time around, being an older parent, I wanted to stay at home with Harry. But then I felt guilty as if I was failing as a woman.”
