Everyone will be talking about this new Princess Diana documentary

Investigating Diana: Death In Paris will feature interviews with members of the police force while exploring the fascination with the case.

A new Channel 4 documentary exploring the circumstances surrounding the death of Princess Diana is coming soon.

Lady Diana Spencer passed away on 31 August 1997 from injuries she sustained in a car crash. The royal, along with her partner Dodi Fayed and Henri Paul, the driver of the vehicle, were all pronounced dead on the scene after the car collided with a pillar in the Post de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. Diana’s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived the crash, but was severely injured.

At the time, reports from the BBC claimed that paparazzi pursuing the car was a contributing factor to the crash, however, in 2008, the jury at a British inquiry ruled the deaths an “unlawful killing” through both Paul’s negligent driving and the pursuit by the paparazzi.

Now, a new documentary will explore the police investigations as well as the conspiracy theories surrounding her death. It will also feature interviews with some of the members of both the French Brigade Criminelle and the London Metropolitan Police.

The series, which is a co-production Channel 4 and Discovery Plus, is titled Investigating Diana: Death in Paris.

Ahead of its release on 21 August, Shaminder Nahal, who is the head of specialist factual and commissioning editor at Channel 4, said that the programme will ask “profound questions about ourselves as a society, and the nature of truth.”

Ms Nahal said: “This utterly compelling series explores in forensic detail what happened in the investigations following the death of Princess Diana – what it was like for the detectives working on a huge global news story that was not just a tragedy for the families involved, but a massive internet phenomenon too.”

Investigating Diana: Death In Paris lands on Channel 4 and All 4 on 21 August.
