Irish teachers are to be given access to a new resource to help them support bereaved children.
Listen with Eyes, Ears and Heart is an online service aimed at giving educators the information they need to help their students through the many stages of grief.
The resource, which includes a four minute animation, video footage of teachers discussing real life experiences and support materials, will be launched by Senator Marie Louise McDonnell at the Irish Hospice Foundation, Nassau Street today.
According to the ESRI Growing up in Ireland report, 2.2 per cent of nine-year-olds in Ireland have lost a parent, 1.1 per cent have lost a sibling and seven per cent have lost an aunt or an uncle. Six per cent of Irish children have lost a close friend and by the age of nine, 28 per cent have experienced the loss of a grandparent.
