A newborn baby “woke up” before his funeral after being pronounced dead by doctors.

The baby and his twin sister were born prematurely last week at the Shalimar Bagh Max Hospital in Delhi, India.

The girl was stillborn and the boy was pronounced dead soon after.

The India Times reports that one hour later, the body bag that the boy had been placed in began to move.

The boy’s family were getting ready to bury him when they realised that he was still alive.

The baby’s uncle, Deepak Bidawat, said:

“We will keep protesting until we get justice. The hospital’s licence should be cancelled and the doctor who declared my nephew dead should be jailed.”

The two doctors that pronounced the baby dead have since been dismissed from their positions.

Indian police and government officials are looking into the incident.

The Indian Medical Association have ruled the incident a “mistake.”
