This morning at 2.50am, in a bizarre twist to this tragic story, a passer-by discovered the body of a man in the exact spot as where abandoned baby Maria was discovered just off the N7 motorway on May 8th. The man had suffered stab wounds. The scene is being examined, and a murder enquiry is now underway.
The search is still on for any clues as to the whereabouts of abandoned baby Maria’s mother or her identity. The tiny 36 hour-old baby was discovered earlier this month, wrapped in a blanket and bin liner and placed in a Marks & Spencer bag in an Industrial Estate on Steelstown Road in Rathcoole, Dublin.
Gardai were left completely baffled as to why the child’s mother would choose this particular location as a place to leave a baby and the discovery of the deceased this morning only adds to the worrying nature of this case.
Very little is still known about the little baby girl who carers have named Maria. Thankfully, she is in good health and is currently in the care of Tusla, the Child and Family Agency who has been granted as interim carers for the baby girl.
More to follow as this story unfolds.
