Travelling on public transport when you've got a toddler in tow isn’t easy; especially when any tantrums are met with glares from fellow passengers.
One mum in England was pleasantly surprised when a stranger left her a note describing her as a “credit to her generation” because of the polite way she spoke to her three-year-old son, while travelling from Birmingham to Plymouth last week.

The man also handed Sammie Welch £5 to buy herself a drink, as he left the train. The note read, "Have a drink on me. You are a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners.”
It continued, "P.S. I have a daughter your age, someone did the same for her once. Hope when she has children she is as good a mother as you."
In light of this story, we've been thinking about the different ways to teach young children the importance of being kind and polite. Below are a few of our favourite children’s books (oldies but goodies!) that tackle the subject of manners.
My Mouth is a Volcano by Julia Cook talks in a fun way about the importance of patience, listening and not interrupting.
The Pirate Who Said Please by Timothy Knapman helps teach young children that saying please, making friends, sharing and being kind are easy and fun.
Yucky Mucky Manners by Sam Lloyd follows a colourful character who takes children on a journey through the jungle, while teaching them about manners in a fun way.
