A fundraiser has been launched to help a young Donegal girl get life-changing surgery.
10-year-old Caoimhe was born with cerebral palsy, which has mainly affected her legs.
The young Donegal girl has been working tirelessly and has gone from being a full-time wheelchair user to using a walker.
Caoimhe is striving, but she now has the chance to get life-changing surgery, which could help her walk independently.
Her parents shared that Caoimhe has the chance to get life-changing surgery SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotom.)
Her parents explained;
"They will relieve the spasticity in her legs through spinal surgery. She has officially been accepted as a great candidate by world-renowned Surgeon Dr. T. S. Park in St Louis Children's Hospital, Missouri for this life-changing surgery SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy).
Her parents said this surgery will finally relieve the everyday pain Caoimhe has been experiencing.
It will also help her immensely in progressing toward her milestones and, her big wish, walking independently.
Caoimhe's one dream is to walk unassisted as well as pain-free.
This surgery is sadly not available in Ireland. It's also not funded by the HSE, so Caoimhe's parents have had no choice but to raise the money themselves.
"We have had to fight for all services since Caoimhe was born we have been self-funding all her treatments.
Her parents said all they want is to give Caoimhe a fighting chance.
They also said she deserves the best quality of life after all she's been through.
"I know these are challenging times for everyone and we would be eternally grateful if you could help us in any way that you can."
