Matthew Healy’s father shares harrowing tribute to his late son

Matthew Healy was laid to rest this week

Matthew's dad showed incredible strength at his son's funeral service in Co. Cork this week.

During the service, the young boy's dad penned a heartfelt but harrowing tribute to his young boy.

How we found the strength to stand up and speak after suffering such a devastating loss is incomprehensible.

His father shared:

"Matthew, it has been the greatest honour in my life and an absolute pleasure to be your dad,” he said. “I am so sorry I could not save you, chief. I love you.

"Matthew touched the lives of many. He was a popular little boy at school and much loved by family and friends. His tragic passing has had a devastating impact on all who knew and loved him.

"It is an incomprehensible loss to his little school pals, friends, and cousins who should not know such grief so young."

James said they're all utterly heartbroken but said they were privileged to know "a wonderful little lad".

The young boy’s body was found in a car at Dunmore East in Co Waterford.

The harrowing discovery was made on Friday, February 9th. Matthew was given medical treatment at the scene and was rushed to University Hospital Waterford, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the hospital.

Matthew's mother has been charged in connection with his death. She appeared before a special sitting of Waterford District Court on the evening of February 13th.
