Her toddler tragically passed away after they were left alone for over a week
A woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder after she left her toddler home alone for ten days.
The mum left her toddler Jailyn at home so she could go travelling.
Kristel Candelario reportedly left her daughter home alone between June 6th and June 16th.
She travelled to Detroit and Puerto Rico in June 2023, leaving her toddler home alone.
Candelario called emergency services and the police following her trip, but it was too late to save her little girl.
The Cuyahoga County medical examiner confirmed the toddler died from severe dehydration and starvation.
Prosecutor Michael C O’Malley stated: “This case is one of those truly unimaginable cases that will stick with me for many years to come.
“It is our job to represent the victims, and today we spoke on behalf of 16-month-old Jailyn – who is no longer with us – due to the selfish decisions her mother made. This conviction today is the first step toward justice for Jailyn.”
Candelario will be sentenced on March 18th. It is believed she could be given a life sentence following her daughter’s untimely death.
