The family died following a fatal, multi-vehicle collision last week.
Tributes have been coming in for a
Kurdish family of three, who were killed in a multi-car collision in Co. Galway last week.
Karzan Sabah, Shahen Qasam and their eight month-old daughter Lena were among three of the four people who died in the crash.
The fourth person who was killed in the crash has been named as Jonas Adam Lach from Portumna, Co. Galway. Another person who traveled in the third car was taken to hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The family were members of the Irish-Kurdish community, and the Kurdish Irish Society led tributes on social media.
In a post on
Facebook, the group wrote: "Our deepest sympathy to the families and relatives of Mr Karzan Sabah, a former PhD student in agriculture, his wife Shahen and child Lena.
"May their souls be returned to Allah and let them rest in peace."
They had been living in Galway and Mr Sabah had recently submitted his PhD thesis to NUIG. It is understood that he hoped to continue his studies.
In a statement, NUIG described Mr Sabah as a "highly-regarded researcher", and they extended their condolences to the family.
The university wrote that they were "saddened" by "such an untimely loss in such tragic circumstances", and offered chaplaincy and support services to those who had been affected by the tragedy.
Post-mortem examinations on those killed are being conducted at Portincula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Gardaí, meanwhile, are continuing with their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. They have appealed for any witnesses to come forward with information relating to the incident.
