“The government need to stop talking and start building.”

One third of people living in emergency accommodation are children, a homelessness charity has said.

Inner City Helping Homeless has said that more needs to be done to help families who are without a home.

The problem will only get worse unless action is taken, the group’s head of communications Brian McLoughlin told Breaking News.

“The government need to stop talking and start building and building on a scale that is required to give these children homes or we’re going to have a much bigger problem next year,” he said.

Meanwhile, the group’s chief has said that Dublin City Centre has bit hit by a “tsunami” of rough sleepers.

Inner City Helping Homeless engaged with 130 people sleeping on the streets of the city on Monday night.

There’s been a jump in rough sleepers aged between 19 and 25, Anthony Flynn wrote on Facebook.

“We have an inundation of people experiencing rough sleeping and we are still on street with teams already engaged with over 130 rough sleepers.

“A serious increase in the demographic of those presenting. An increase in the 18-25 year old age range.

“The tsunami has hit, homeless services need a full review. This will only get worse.”
