A 2-year-old boy has been orphaned after losing his parents in a mass shooting near Chicago.

On July 4th, a gunman opened fire at spectators at the Highland Park parade.

Parents Irina and Kevin McCarthy were both killed during the senseless shooting.

After the attack, their 2-year-old son Aiden was found wandering alone.

According to reports, the infant was separated from his parents during the shooting.

The young boy has since been reunited with his grandparents who will now raise him.

Thankfully, Aiden was not physically hurt during the shooting.

His family has set up a GoFundMe to support the young boy in the future.

Nearly $2 million has been raised for little Aiden so far.

A family friend shared, “In the aftermath of the Highland Park, IL shootings on July 4, the North Shore community rallied to help a boy who we knew nothing about.

“We took him to safety under tragic circumstances, came together to locate his grandparents, and prayed for the safety of his family.”

“Sadly, I need to share his name…Aiden McCarthy. And he needs more of our help. His parents Irina and Kevin were killed during the July 4 shooting. At two years old, Aiden is left in the unthinkable position; to grow up without his parents.”

“Aiden will be cared for by his loving family and he will have a long road ahead to heal, find stability, and ultimately navigate life as an orphan.”

Aiden is being surrounded by his loved ones and community, who have vowed to do whatever they can to help him.
