Parents change three-year-old’s name… to Popcorn

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Nope, it’s not April 1st.

A Welsh couple have decided to change their little boy’s name to Popcorn… because it’s become the only name he will answer to.

So, how exactly did this happen? Well, it might help to explain things by pointing out that the three-year-old was originally named Diesel (inspired by the television show Thunderbirds, natch).

As if that wasn’t unique enough, parents Hazel Williams and Huw Roberts soon began using another unusual nickname:

They told Wales Online:

‘He was a bit of a fighter during Hazel’s pregnancy, and the kicks in the womb were like the popping that happens when you put the corn in the saucepan.

‘It’s stuck ever since that day.’

The pair, also mum and dad to Paige, 14, and Tyler, 16, plan to change little Diesel’s name by deed poll, making him the only person in Britain named Popcorn.

“We’ve always called him Popcorn, it started of as a nickname but now he won’t answer to anything else,” said Hazel.

“We love the name, it’s fun and all of our friends call him it and like it too.
