“Life was never the same”

Patrick Kriegel’s wife says he couldn’t cope with the loss of their daughter Ana.

Speaking at her husband’s funeral, the mum said losing Ana completely broke his heart.

Patrick passed away peacefully at his home in Leixlip, Kildare on June 19th.

Tributes have been pouring in for Patrick since his death.

His wife Geraldine paid tribute to her “soulmate” and “best friend” at his funeral.

Geraldine said Patrick filled her life with “happiness” as well as “love”.

She said Patrick “opened a beautiful book for me that became the story of our lives together”.

Geraldine and Patrick were married for 36 years.

Geraldine said Patrick “embraced life in a very special way.”

She shared: “If you met him, he could fill your heart with joy just listening to his laughter and his genuine interest in you and your life.”

However, Patrick was never the same after the harrowing loss of his daughter Ana.

Geraldine said they suffered so much after Ana’s murder.

“Life was never the same. My darling Patrick couldn’t bear the pain of losing his little girl, his beloved Ana.”

Patrick’s brother-in-law Kevin also said that losing Ana broke Patrick’s heart.

“Too soon after Ana, it’s just incomprehensible, it doesn’t make sense.”

Patrick and Geraldine tragically lost their daughter Ana in 2018. Ana was brutally attacked, murdered, and sexually assaulted in a derelict building in Lucan.

She was only 14 years old at the time of her murder.

Two boys, known as Boy A and Boy B, were found guilty of murdering Ana. Boy A was further convicted of aggravated sexual assault.

After their sentencing, Ana’s father said “forever is not long enough”.
