Paul Mescal reacts to his very first Oscar nomination

His face says it all.

Irish actor Paul Mescal has been nominated for his first-ever Oscar and it’s safe to say his family is feeling pretty proud.

The Normal People star was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Aftersun this afternoon.

Paul’s sister Nell Mescal reacted to the news this afternoon and her reaction is too cute.

Following the announcement, the musician tweeted, “I’m sobbing. How on earth did this happen?”

She also posted a photo of Paul FaceTiming his family following the incredible news.

Nell said she has a video of their reactions, but won’t post it because “those tears were UGLY”.

The singer-songwriter added, “I am so proud it is making me sick.”

She also posted a photo of her brother after he found out about his nomination.

Other Irish nominees include Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon.

Irish language film An Cailín Ciúin made history by becoming the first Irish language film to be nominated for an Oscar for Best International Feature.

The Banshees of Inisherin was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director as well as Best Original Screenplay.

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12th, 2023.
