A father is facing backlash after posting numerous photos and videos of his four-year-old working out at the gym. And it’s not just simple workouts, it’s proper weight lifting and high skilled exercises.

James Townsend, who owns a gym, has been sharing posts about his daughter’s gym visits but one of his most recent has drawn a lot of attention.

In the post, which shows little Freya doing a squat with a huge weight, he said, “She’s my motivation. “I was trying to focus and not laugh when she yelled ‘C’MON P, I GOT THIS’! PR (personal record) Back Squat @ 35lbs, 4 yrs old.”

With Freya being only 4 years old, people feel a weight of this size is far too heavy for her.

Some of the people have given their opinion under the photo.

“Do u know how unhealthy that’s gonna stunt his growth.”

“With weights that heavy at that young age, that’s one way to destroy a kid’s growth plate.”

“I hope he had research first since I would never put my kid in danger to lift such a heavy weight.”

Another mistook the little girl for a boy and had worries over ‘his’ development.

“What the heck are you doing to that poor kid. He is going to stay 3 feet tall for ever. Let his little body develop. It breaks my heart to see you doing this to him. Your passion doesn’t have to be his.”

Replying to the negative comments, James said:

“It’s not unhealthy. It’s good for her development. The stunt growth is a myth. This will help her development of strong bones, sports performance (LTAD long term athletic development), muscle strength and endurance etc.”
